Dear Friends:
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Thirteenth Annual Festival of Champions. For the past twelve years, this meet has had the distinction of being one of the best high school meets in the Northwest, giving teams an early season proving ground to test their mettle against some of the best schools in the region.
In its twelve years, the Festival of Champions has played host to 15 teams that have gone on to win State Titles. We have seen 13 individuals race around our course before winning an Individual Crown at their State Championships later that season. We are very proud of this tradition of quality competition but even more proud of the fact that schools continue to return and compete with us year after year. Twenty of last year’s teams have returned for another great day of racing. Ten schools are returning for at least their fifth consecutive year. We are honored that so many teams would include this meet as a regular event on their racing schedule.
As host school, Sunset High School is indebted to its community and parents for allowing the meet to thrive. It is also indebted to the support it receives from Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy, Fit Right NW, and
runnerspace.com. These great companies do so much to support high school cross country. If you are unfamiliar with their services and products, please look them up. They are wonderful companies staffed by wonderful people.
I would also like to thank Clackamas Community College. Without the support of Coach Keoni McHone and his school, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy this great course, these fantastic facilities, and the beautiful environs that make this race so wonderful for this sport.
Please enjoy a great day of racing and sportsmanship. Cheer with all your heart and give your support to all the great athletes and teams who will compete at the Festival of Champions.
Sincerely,
Dan Neeway
